About us
Standing on the shoulders of giants
Laugh-cano was inspired by Honolulu’s Improvaganza Improv Festival, which ran for several years pre pandemic. It’s our goal to follow in the footsteps of that awesome institution, with respect for the contribution to the creators, and much gratitude to them.
Several of the same folks are involved in this new festival. Attendees who previously enjoyed Improvaganza might recognize some friendly faces at Laugh-cano.
We plan to add a history section to this website that will tell more of the story of Improvaganza.

With regularly performing groups like Think Fast, Improv Superette, Improv HI, Oil in the Alley, and more, and with quality training programs like Shannon Winpenny’s classes at MVT and the classes offered by Think Fast and Improv HI, Honolulu’s improv scene is alive and thriving.
Local First
Seeking visiting groups from around the state
For our inaugural, we’re opening submissions to improvisors from all the neighboring islands. We’re starting local.
Improvaganza, the inspiration for LAUGH-CANO, was known for a spirit of hospitality toward visiting improvisors from around the world, and we seek to imbue this festival with the same welcoming energy. Our hope for the next year is to open submissions to national and international visitors, so that wherever you’re from, you can come to share in the celebration in this artform we love.
